  • Prime Minister’s Safe Motherhood Campaign: Madhya Pradesh awarded for reducing maternal mortality
    ==============

    ▪️Madhya Pradesh was awarded by Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for reducing maternal mortality under Prime Minister’s Safe Motherhood Campaign (Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan-PMSMA).

    ▪️The state was awarded for registering unprecedented 48-digit decline in maternal deaths from 2014 to 2016 as per report of Registrar General of India (RGI).

    ✔️ Key Facts

    ▪️The maternal mortality rate in Madhya Pradesh was 221 in 2011-13, which has now dropped down further to just 173. This accounts to significant 22% decline in the last three years in the state.

    ▪️State Government’s various awareness programmes like institutional delivery, Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery (ANM), Anganwadi workers, knock-out campaigns etc.

    ▪️have played pivotal role in reducing maternal mortality rate and this decline will be more noticeable in the coming years.

  • Swajal Scheme

    Swajal is community owned drinking water scheme or programme for sustained drinking water supply. Under it, 90% of project cost is taken care by the Government and remaining 10% is contributed by beneficiary community. The operations and management of the project is taken care by the local villagers. Under this scheme, government aims to provide villages with piped water supply powered by harnessing solar energy. Moreover, hundreds of rural technicians will be trained under this scheme for operation and maintenance of Swajal units.

  • Gaj Yatra launched in Garo Hills of Meghalaya
    ==================
    ▪️Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) rolled out ‘Gaj Yatra’, an awareness campaign to protect elephants from Tura in Garo Hills of Meghalaya.

    ▪️It was organised by the Wildlife Trust of India in collaboration with the State Forest Department.

    ▪️Under this campaign, an elephant mascot will be taken across districts frequented by jumbo herds for generating awareness among the people.

    ▪️It was launched to acknowledged good gesture of villagers from Garo Hills who had set aside part of their community-owned land to create village reserve forests for human-elephant harmony.

    ✔️ Gaj Yatra

    ▪️Gaj Yatra is 18-month-long national campaign aimed to protect elephants, India’s national heritage animal in 12 elephant range states. For Daily Updates Join Telegram Channel DailyGkZone

    ▪️It was launched in August 2017 by Environment and Forest Minister Harsh Vardhan on the occasion of World Elephant Day 2017 (observed on August 12).

    ▪️The campaign is being led by Wildlife Trust of India (WTI). It aims to involve people from all walks of life in conservation of elephants.

    ▪️Under this campaign, WTI is securing 101 elephant corridors across in 12 elephant range states through its Right to Passage project, in partnership with Union government’s Project Elephant, state forest departments and various NGOs.

    ▪️The aim this project is to rehabilitate people affected by man-elephant conflict in corridor areas while ensuring uninterrupted movement of elephants between key habitats.

  • Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana: Odisha’s Health Insurance Scheme for Journalists

    ▪️Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana is a new Health Insurance Scheme for the journalists launched by the state government in Odisha. This scheme provides Rs. 2 Lakh per annum health insurance cover to all working journalists of the state.

    ✔️ Key Facts

    ▪️Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana has come into effect from June 1, 2018 and will initially cover around 3200 journalists and their family members from various media groups.

    ▪️The insurance coverage will be applicable for cashless treatment in government and private hospitals.

    ▪️The scheme will also cover the injuries and illness faced by journalists while performing their duties.

    ✔️ Name of Scheme

    ▪️The scheme has been named after Gopalbandhu Das (1877-1928) a prominent social worker, reformer, political activist, journalist, poet and essayist of Odisha.

    ▪️His contribution to art, culture and society to Odisha earned him the epithet of Utkalmani (jewel of Odisha).

    ▪️His contribution to journalism in the state was short but remarkable. In the decade of 1910, he had launched a monthly literary magazine called Satyabadi through which he tried to educate the masses.

  • Seva Bhoj Yojna

    - The Union Ministry of Culture on June 1, 2018 introduced a new scheme called ‘SevaBhojYojna’ to reimburse the central share of CGST and IGST on items for food/prasad/langar/bhandara offered free of cost by charitable religious institutions.

     

    ✔️ About the Yojana:

     

    - The scheme seeks to reimburse the central government’s share of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and Integrated Goods and Service Tax (IGST) on purchase of raw items such as ghee, edible oil, atta, maida, rava, flour, rice pulses, sugar and jaggery, which go into preparation of food/prasad/langar/bhandara offered free of cost by religious institutions.

     

    - The main objective of the scheme is to lessen the financial burden of such charitable religious institutions, which provide free of cost without any discrimination to the general public and devotees.

     

    - The charitable religious institutions including temples, gurudwara, mosque, church, dharmik ashram, dargah, monasteries, which fulfill the following criteria are eligible for the grant:

     

    - The institutions that have been in existence for at least five years before applying for financial assistance/grant.

    The institutions that serve free food to at least 5000 people in a month.

     

    - The institutions covered under Section 10( 23BBA)  of the Income Tax Act  or those registered as Society  under Societies Registration Act ( XXI of 1860) or as a Public Trust under any law for the time being in force of statuary religious bodies constituted under any Act  or institutions registered under Section 12AA of Income Tax Act.

  • PM Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan
    Why in news?
    The Union Government has launched Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) to provide free health check-ups to pregnant women at government health centres and hospitals.
    What is PM Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan?
    • PMSMA aim to reduce Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) through safe pregnancies and safe deliveries.
    • Target Beneficiaries: All pregnant women who are in their 2nd and 3rd Trimesters of pregnancy. It is expected to provide free antenatal care to about 3 crore pregnant women across the country.
    • The services would be provided by gynecology specialists/ physicians with support from private sector doctors.In addition to antenatal checkups, services like ultrasound, blood, and urine tests will be provided to the beneficiaries.

  • Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana

    ▪️PMSSY was announced in 2003. Its objectives are correcting regional imbalances in availability of affordable and reliable tertiary healthcare services and augment facilities for quality medical education in country.

    ▪️It establishes AIIMS in various regions of India apart from different government colleges. It is funded from different centrally sponsored schemes relating to creating infrastructure on health.

    ▪️Under PMSSY, Government is planning to set up 20 AIIMS across the country. So far AIIMs have been established in Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Raipur (Chattisgarh), Jodhpur (Rajasthan), Rishikesh (Uttarakhand) and Patna (Bihar).
    Work of AIIMS Rae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Kalyani (West Bengal) and Mangalagiri (Andhra Pradesh) is in progress. Construction work also has been awarded for AIIMS, Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh). AIIMS have also been sanctioned in Bathinda (Punjab), Guwahati (Assam), Bilaspur (Himachal Pradesh).

  • POSHAN Abhiyaan🍲
    🥚It was launched on 8th March 2018 by the Prime Minister.
    🥚 POSHAN Abhiyaan has been set up with a three-year budget of Rs.9046.17 crore commencing from 2017-18. All States and Union Territories to be targeted in a phased manner.
    🥚The Abhiyaan targets to reduce stunting, under-nutrition, anaemia (among young children, women and adolescent girls) and reduce low birth weight by 2%, 2%, 3% and 2% per annum respectively.
    🥚The target of the mission is to bring down stunting among children in the age group 0-6 years from 38.4% to 25% by 2022.
    🥚National Council on India’s nutritional challenges under chairmanship of Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, has also been set up under the POSHAN Abhiyaan.
    🥚The Council shall submit report to the Prime Minister every 6 months

  • The Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) was announced in 2003 with objectives of correcting regional imbalances in the availability of affordable/ reliable tertiary healthcare services and also to augment facilities for quality medical education in the country.

    The scheme has two components: Setting up of new AIIMS and upgradation of government medical colleges.
    Under this scheme, AIIMS have been established in Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal, Raipur, Jodhpur, Rishikesh and Patna while work of AIIMS Rae Bareli is in progress. Also, three AIIMS in Nagpur (Maharashtra), Kalyani (West Bengal) and Mangalagiri in Guntur (Andhra Pradesh) have been sanctioned in 2015 and two AIIMS have been sanctioned at Bathinda and Gorakhpur in 2016.
