  • Indian Railway has used drones for the first time for inspecting a mega project to assess the progress on the ground and plans to use it to monitor other under-construction schemes. The unmanned aerial vehicle was used to inspect the work on the western Dedicated Freight Corridor project in Bihar. Drones will also be used to assess the ground situation in the aftermath of train accidents. The drone was hired from a private operator at a cost of Rs 3,000 per km for undertaking the survey.

  • The HRD Ministry made changes in the pattern of JEE for 2017after examining the Ashok Mishra Committee’s report and considering the public feedback. Class XII marks will not be a factor for determining rankings in the JEE for admissions to engineering undergraduate courses from next year. The present system gives 40 per cent weightage for the Class 12th marks in calculating the ranks in JEE Main. To qualify in the JEE, the students will have to secure atleast 75 per cent marks in 12th. For SC and ST students, this condition will be relaxed to 65 per cent marks.
