    The Chennai Corporation on Wednesday launched a cycle-sharing system, in public-private partnership (PPP) mode, at 25 locations in Anna Nagar and along Marina beach, with user charges of 25 for the first hour and 19 for every additional 30 minutes. The civic body will soon expand the SmartBike cycle-sharing system to 400 locations across all 15 zones of the city.

    Australia's wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy set a new Guinness World Record after achieving the feat for the 'highest catch of a cricket ball' at the Melbourne Cricket Ground(MCG). She caught a ball which was dropped from a drone,80 metres above the cricket ground. The record was previously set by the England's Kristan Baumgartner with a catch from 62 metres and before her, former England captain,Nasser Hussain held it with 49 metres. The record attempt was part of the campaign carried out by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket Australia in collaboration, to set the highest attendance figure for a women's sporting fixture during the final of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2020, which will be held on 8th March, 2020 at MCG.

    Indian batsman Suresh Raina became the first Indian to score 8000 runs in T20 cricket after scoring just 12 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Puducherry. He was playing for Uttar Pradesh.He has scored 8001 runs in 300 Twenty20s at an average of 33.47 and notched 4 centuries and 48 fifties in the shortest format. MS Dhoni is the only other Indian to have played 300 T20s so far.He has scored the 6th most runs in T20s after Chris Gayle (12298 runs), Brendon McCullum (9922), Kieron Pollard (8838 runs), Shoaib Malik (8603 runs) and David Warner (8111 runs).

    Union Minister Piyush Goyal launched Rail Drishti Dashboard, an online portal containing information related to passenger and freight trains and links to live feeds of IRCTC kitchens.The URL of the dashboard is raildrishti.cris.org.in and it is very well optimized and user friendly so that those in remote villages can also access and know everything about railways.It can be accessed using desktop/laptop or a mobile device such as phone or tablet.It encompasses all the efforts taken by the Indian railways to digitize and brings information from various sources to one platform and also gives access to key statistics and parameters to every citizen of India.

  • Lifetime Achievement award

    On 25th February 2019, G.R. Karthikeyan was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award at the FMSCI annual awards function held in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He is the father of Narain Karthikeyan– India’s first Formula One racer.Also, Raghul Rangasamy was honoured with the Upcoming Motorsport Person of the Year award for the Raymond Gautam Singhania Trophy.The awards were presented by the chief guest of the event, FIA president Jean Todt.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme in Gorakhpur,Uttar Pradesh. The scheme will provide Rs 6,000 per year to small and marginal farmer families having combined land holding/ownership of upto 2 hectares.The amount will be given in three installments of Rs 2,000 each and will be transferred directly to the bank account of the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer, ensuring transparency in the entire process and saving time for the farmers.

  • Mukhyamantri Yuva Swabhiman Yojana

    Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath launched the State Government’s flagship scheme ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Swabhiman Yojana’ that guarantees 100 days of employment every year to urban youth from economically weaker sections.Under the scheme, Rs 4,000 stipend per month during 100 days of period, would be given to the youth and they will also be given skill development training in order to become independent.Each youth enrolled under the scheme will get total Rs 13,500 for the 100 days period.Only those youths, whose family’s annual income is less than Rs 2 lakh and who are in the age group of 21-30 years, are eligible for the scheme.1.5 lakh urban youths have so far registered themselves for this scheme.

    The 91st Academy Awards (commonly known as Oscars), presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honored the best films of 2018, on February 24, 2019, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.

    • Bohemian Rhapsody won the most awards in total with 4, while Roma, Green Book, and Black Panther won 3 awards each.
    • India-set short film, “Period. End of Sentence.”, a short documentary film based on mensuration won the Oscar for “Best Documentary Short” category. It is directed by Iranian-American film director, Rayka Zehtabchi.
    • ”Black Panther”  became the first superhero film to win “Best Original Score”.
    • ”Roma” created history by becoming the first Mexican feature to win “Best Foreign Film” Oscar.

  • Women's Livelihood Bonds

    World Bank, United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) launched new social impact bonds exclusively for women, called Women's Livelihood Bonds (WLBs), with an initial corpus of Rs 300 crore. It will enable individual women entrepreneurs in sectors like food processing, agriculture, services, and small units to borrow around Rs 50,000 to Rs 3 lakh at an annual interest rate of around 13% to 14% or less and have a tenure of 5 years. They will be unsecured, unlisted bonds and offer a fixed coupon rate of 3% per annum to bond investors.
