World day of social justice

The World Day of Social Justice was observed across the world today with an aim to recognise the need to promote efforts to tackle several issues like exclusion, unemployment and poverty.

According to United Nations, social justice is an underlying principle for prosperous and peaceful coexistence within and among nations. Social justice means removal of barriers that people face in the name of gender, ethnicity, age, religion, disability and culture.

Theme of World Day of Social Justice 2018

The theme of World Day of Social Justice 2018 is 'Workers on the Move: the Quest for Social Justice'.

As per the United Nations, most of the migration today is linked directly or indirectly to the search for decent work opportunities. There are an estimated 258 million international migrants.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates that there are roughly 150 million migrant workers who account for 4.4 per cent of all workers.


The World Day of Social Justice was proclaimed by United Nations General Assembly in 2007 in accordance with the goals and objectives of the World Summit for Social Development.

The day was created to support efforts of the international community in poverty eradication; for promotion of full employment and decent work and for access to social well-being and justice for all.


National Sports Day

               On August 29 2017 Prime Minister Narendra Modi tribute to the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, and congratulated all sportspersons on the occasion of National Sports Day.
               He also launched National Sports Talent Search Portal.It will give essential direction and support to youngsters to pursue their ambition in sports.



About Dhyan Chand:
              August 29 marks the birth anniversary of India’s hockey legend, Major Dhyan Chand. In order to honour him this day is celebrated as National Sports Day.
              He earned three gold medals for India during the 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympics. He is Known as “The Wizard” for his superb ball control.
              He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1956 by the Indian government for his splendid contribution to Indian hockey.


National Handloom Day

August 7 was declared as the National Handloom Day in 2015 to mark the 1905 Swadeshi movement.
          It was on August 7, 1905 that the formal proclamation of the Swadeshi Movement was made in a meeting at the Calcutta Town hall. The movement involved boycotting British products and the revival of domestic products and production processes.
          This was observed across the country to honour the handloom weavers and to encourage people to use hand-made loom in the country.
    • According to goverment data, 95 percent of the world's hand woven fabric comes from India. This sector contributes nearly 15 percent of the cloth production in the country. It also contributes to the country's export earnings.The assam goverment has already announced an ambitious Muga Mission to increase production with a cost of 100 crore rupees.
    • Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani has said that weavers in the northeast would be given several services through Weavers Service Centres. These Services Centres will serve as one-stop centres for various services like banking, passport, insurance, PAN card, Voter ID and Adhaar.




World Homeopathy Day: International Convention Organised in New Delhi

          Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH, Shripad Yesso Naik inaugurated the National Convention on World Homeopathy Day on 10 April 2017 at New Delhi. 

           The event was organized to commemorate the 262nd birth anniversary of the founder of Homeopathy, Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician, who was a great scholar, linguist and acclaimed scientist. The theme of the convention is "Enhancing Quality Research in Homeopathy through scientific evidence and rich clinical experiences".


World Health Day: 7 April

            World Health Day is celebrated on 7th of April every year to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization. The theme of 2017 World Health Day is 'Depression: Let's Talk'.
